Fumigation And Pest Control Services-A GUIDE TO PEST CONTROL

Introduction Of Fumigation And Pest Control Services

Fumigation is a method of pest control that completely fills an area with gaseous pesticides—or fumigants—to suffocate or poison the pests within. It is utilized for control of pests in buildings (structural fumigation), soil, grain, and produce, and is also used during processing of goods to be imported or exported to prevent transfer of exotic organisms. This method also affects the structure itself, affecting pests that inhabit the physical structure, such as woodborers and dry wood termites. Our company, ASKHOM Nig. Ltd, aims at exceeding client’s expectations with the most effective pest control in Nigeria and that this be done in an ethical, professional, responsive and caring manner Professional pest control services respond to man’s concern for his health and property. Concerns about the quality of life have created an ever expanding need for professional pest control service. Your cooperation will enhance the pest control program you select. Some people are of the view that Integrated pest management (IPM) has no place in commercial pest control but we contend that it is not the choice of insecticides to be used that achieves the desired level of control, but also the choice of strategies that achieve effective results with minimum risk or hazard to customers and to the environment. Askhom Nig Ltd is popular for its conceptual approach in solving pest problems. We offer a comprehensive Pest Control Service that includes the following: Anti-cockroach treatment: Cockroaches have been on the earth for 250 million years. They are widely distributed pests that annoy and when abundant are destructive.. They spread diseases as they leave filth when they run over the food. Though there are 3,500 species of cockroaches existing in the world only two species are common and occur quite often. They are German and American Cockroaches. To control them, two configurations are used: 1. Baiting Technology 2. Spray treatment Baiting Technology: Baiting technology is emerging as a reliable alternative control method that produces maximum effect against target insects and minimal impact on human activity. The salient features of this technology are: No smell/ Odour. They can be applied in sensitive areas such as kitchen appliances, computers, electrical control boards, record rooms etc., as this technology contains low dosage of active ingredient. No need to leave the premises during or after the treatment. No need to empty drawers or cover up food or make any special preparations prior to the treatment. In a cascading effect – once the cockroaches have eaten the bait, they contaminate other cockroaches thus producing a cascade of self destruction throughout the cockroach population. This leads to quick eradication and no reinvasion. Not a repellant but an attractant – this bait contains insect growth regulator as the active ingredient which acts on a specific species of insects like cockroaches. This active ingredient is mixed with feeding stimulants like food attractants and pheromones. Spray Treatment: Here we use a unique formulation, which has flushing affect with residual effect for 15 days. This formulation is sprayed on the surface of the infested area which draws the cockroaches instantly out of their habitats, generally crevices, holes etc. This formulation has a knock down effect which kills the cockroaches that come out instantly. Component Structure (BAITING Technology) a) Gel formulation b) Active ingredient: IGRs (Insect growth regulators). c) Fipronil 0.005g/L d) Odourless f) Has a cascading effect (one cockroach contaminates another) g) Can be done while in operation. h) 100 percent efficacy. i) Approved by EPA & WHOPES j) Long lasting effect Rodent Control: A continuous and frustrating pest, rats and bandicoots have defied man’s ingenuity for long at home and in offices or eating-place. They damage structures, electrical circuits, clothes, books, and papers and contaminate food articles. They are carriers of frightening diseases like typhoid, rat fever, Maurine typhus, leptopsoriasis, rickettsial pox, trichinosis, dysentery, meningitis and the deadly plague. To combat the menace of the rodents there are three methods: 1. Acute-Toxic 2. Low Toxic 3. Non-Toxic Acute-Toxic This method is used to control rats in open spaces outside the buildings. This is used against Norway Rats, which generally stay in gutters and dustbins. The rats die within minutes due to the Phosphine gas released by our chemical. This is very effective against Bandicoots. The disadvantage is, we cannot overcome the bait shy character of rats; and bait rotation has to be done very frequently. Low Toxic: This method uses the second-generation anti-coagulants, which are effective after the very first dose. They eliminate the bait-shy among rodents, as the target does not die immediately unlike in the acute toxic method. The rats affected by the Anti-Coagulants come out into the open and die eliminating the risk of stinking.

Non-toxic: In this method glue pads, mechanical traps, runway traps etc are used which making it completely safe for people as well as pets. a) Second-generation anti-coagulants with bromadiolone 0.25%CB b) Low toxic and harmless to other Pests. c) Does not include bait shyness d) Tends to make rats come out in the open and die. e) Non-toxic methods used are : Deploying Glue boards, Snap traps, mechanical traps, runway traps etc. General Disinfestation: Our own combination of treatments eliminates domestic pests such as silver fish, lizards, cockroach’s moths, rodents, spiders and cobwebs and prevents their further growth with their residual effect. Component Structure a) Active ingredient: Deltametherin 2.5% flow b) Odourless, non-staining and active against all flying and crawling insects. Safe for warm-blooded animals as it does not penetrate the keratin layer of the skin unlike the conventional insecticides like malathion . d) Long lasting effect. Fly Control: In case of severe infestations, we identify the source and do the breeding control treatment as this is the only pest which is not nocturnal in nature and becomes active as the warmth increases. During summer and monsoon season this problem is very acute. Apart from breeding control, we use the mist blowing system to cover all outer areas with a highly effective chemical. This can be used along the borders and open areas. For inner areas we use glue traps along with the pheromone coated adhesive sheets or specialised UV fly traps. Component Structure a) Active ingredient: Cyfluthrin 5% EC, Deltamethrin 2.5%W/W. b) Odourless, non-staining and active against all flying and crawling insects. c) Safe for warm-blooded animals as this does not penetrate the keratin layer of the skin unlike the conventional insecticides like malathion. d) Broad spectrum of action. e) Long lasting effect. Mosquitoes Control: Another unconquered enemy of man is the mosquito. Much appreciated by all our clientele for its deadly effectiveness, our mosquito-control treatment not only eliminates mosquitoes but also releases reproduction inhibitors leaving little chance for re-infestation. We have formulated two combinations _ one that produces pleasant fragrance and the other completely odourless, which is virtually non-toxic, no vapors and biodegradable. Both are non-staining and have a long time residual effect of 20 days.

The two configurations are proved to be highly effective when tried out by the National Eradication Programme, Malaria Center & National Institute of Communicable Diseases. The World Health Organization (WHO) has approved these chemicals. Component Structure a) Active ingredient: Cyfluthrin 5% EC, Deltamethrin 2.5%W/W. b) Odourless, non-staining and active against all flying and crawling insects. c) Safe for warm-blooded animals as this does not penetrate the keratin layer of the skin unlike the conventional insecticide like malathion etc. d) Broad spectrum of action. e) Long lasting effect. Fogging Operations: a) Active ingredient: King Fog 1.25 ULV b) Oil based concentrate-containing 10g of Deltamethrin W/V per liter. c) Fast kill of adult mosquitoes resistant to organo chlorine and organo phosphorous insecticides. d) Safe for humans and animals as Kingfog 1.25 ULV contains a biodegradable synthetic pyrethroid. Cobweb Control: Component Structure a) Active ingredient: cyfluthrin5%sc b) Safe for warm-blooded animals as this does not penetrate the keratin layer of the skin unlike the conventional insecticide like malathion . c) Long lasting Broad spectrum action Snake control: A) Corrective method: Snakes, hide in deep holes and only come out only to hunt for food once a week. They will be very active soon after shedding their upper skin once a month. To catch a snake we have some special methods. By using them we can even catch them from their hidings. The captured snakes will be released in deep jungle. B) Preventive method: After making the compound snake free zone we must adopt preventive methods to avoid their re-entry into the zone. They can be restricted by shutting down all the holes along the compound wall and by using snake repellant chemicals. The snake repellants available will lasts their resistance power in a span of one month and repeated treatments are recommended. All the ingredients in the snake repellant chemicals are non-toxic and are listed and approved by the Environmental Protection Agency of U.S. the supporting body of International Program on Chemical Safety (IPCS). The active ingredients and their percentages are listed in the Material safety data sheet. Apart from the spray we use specialised pheromone based ribbons and pads. Lizard Control: A) Corrective method: There are over 150 species of lizards in India. The majority are forest dwellers and difficult to sight. The most commonly seen are a few species of Geckos (Hemidactylus) which quickly colonize houses, darting about on the ceiling in the evening after cockroaches, mosquitoes and other prey. People mistakenly believe they are poisonous, and that a gecko falling into food can cause fatal poisoning. B) Controlling methods: IPM has come out with a unique formulation that makes the lizard come out from their habitat and once the spray falls on it dies immediately. Another method is by using a glue pad for which the lizards stick to it. Bedbugs Control: A residual spray is done from the bedbugs with synthetic pythriod which is non toxic and odorless. Beehive Control: This is done in the evenings with a carbonate spray as they are not nocturnal in nature. Fogging Control: The best way to control the mosquitoes is the space spray which is done in the evening time by using specialized equipment. This is done to control the adult mosquitoes that stay in most of the in accessible places for human beings. Fogging Operations: a) Chemical Used: King Fog 1.25 ULV b) Oil based concentrate-containing 10g of Deltamethrin W/V per liter. c) Fast kill of adult mosquitoes resistant to organ chlorine and organophosphorous insecticides. d) Safer for humans and animals as King fog 1.25 ULV contains a biodegradable synthetic pyrethroid. Wood Borer Control: Woodborers are pests, which live on the starch of the wood and convert it into powder state, thus making the entire wooden structure hallow and weak. These pests spread very fast, as they are air borne. Even the larva of the woodborer travels through air. Fast prevention of this is better than cure. Method of Treatment: The treatment method adopted is by injecting a special formulation which has got a flushing effect making the insect come out in the open and die unlike with the conventional chemicals which are used by the other pest controllers. This formulation is injected into the holes made by the insects in the timber. . This not only kills the insect but also the larva in the wood and might hatch any time of 8 years of period. Fumigation: This is done with a special smoke generator which contains cypermythrin 3% as an active ingredient resulting in flushing out all crawling creeping and Flying insects. Its oral Toxicity rat LD50- 3061.22 mg. /kg. It is virtually non toxic and thus safe for humans. The area should be fumigated at least 7 hrs. Frequency of the Fumigation depends on the infestation. Dusting: Dusting is done with inorganic compounds or Deltamythrin 2.5 WP. With all these three methods we can bring down heavy infestation by Cockroaches. Frequency: Fumigation is done initially for the first month to bring down the infestation levels. Baiting Technology and Dusting will be carried thereafter twice a month.
